In the Chaos of Conference realignment, has Texas become The Equalizer?

Last week, with the departure of Nebraska & Colorado, it wasn't a matter of if the Big XII would disband, but when? However, the tables have turned. What looked iminent that Texas would join the Pac-10 and their quest for college football immortality, now is not the case.

Dan Beebe earned his money as Big XII Commissioner these past 2-3 weeks. This move makes sense to me. Why join a conference with 16 teams when you can join one with now ten teams and not play a Championship game? Not only does this work well for Texas and Oklahoma, but it helps OSU, Texas A&M, and Texas Tech by eliminating divisions.

If the Pac-16 would have happened, There wouldn't have been a Championship game anyway. Instead would look for 2 Automatic BCS Bids. Given the track record of the Pac-10 in the last decade, do they really feel they deserve 2 auto bids with the Big XII refugees joining their fold??? I think not. I think the Mountain West is more deserving of one auto bid rather than the Pac-10 getting two. When was the last time a Pac-10 ever recieved an at-large bid in the BCS? The Answer was Washington St. in 2002 when they tied USC for the Pac-10 Championship.

Not only would it not make sense geographically, but some of the most prestige rivalries, that make college football what it is, stay in tact.

I was never a fan of all of this mega-conference super shifting. Maybe Texas and Dan Beebe have finally played equalizer in stopping the madness before it's too late. Will there be more moves???? Probably So, but will the speculation be at a maddening pace??? Probably not.

You may ask, should Colorado and Nebraska feel stupid for their choice to jump what looked like a sinking ship???

Colorado: No

Nebraska: Yes

Colorado made the right move to go to the Pac-10, there's more opportunity for them to excell. The depth of the Pac-10 is not as broad with the sanctions of USC and the off-field troubles of Oregon. Plus, with no Championship Game (at least right now), they have a chance to make up some major ground.

Nebraska should feel dumb for their move to the Big Ten. Why?? They owned the Big XII North and will now have to travel to the likes of Penn St, Ohio St, and Michigan. Other than football, what can they offer The Big Ten other than the Lincoln, NE TV Market? The silver lining is it can ignite a nice conference rivalry with Iowa. Other than those two factors, it doesn't make sense to me.

Is this over? If not, who will make the next move??? I wouldn't be surprised if Dan Beebe comes knocking on the doors of LSU and Arkansas. Then, things will get even more interesting.
