Pete Carroll......We know why you left USC!

The past few days has been a celebration for SEC fans. It's not only that an SEC team won the BCS Championship for the 4th straight time (twice against Big Ten and Big XII), but also the fact that the "Wicked Witch of the West Coast" is now heading just shy of Victoria, British Columbia to coach in the NFL.

Let me preface this by saying that Pete Carroll has been a great college coach. His enthusiasm was electric and led one of the most consistent programs in the last decade. However, a dark cloud is about to hover over Los Angeles. Pete Carroll knew this, let's call it for what it is.

For years, I've heard fans across this region conspiring that the NCAA is trying to overlook USC since the story broke about Reggie Bush and family taking unauthorized money. They ask "Why aren't they doing anything to USC?". The answer is simple. If you've ever followed certain trails for murder, fraud, etc. You would realize that most verdicts are never reached at the same time. Some take two weeks and some take two years or longer. I've said this before, some investigations take longer to compile damning evidence to possibly lay the hammer to make an example out of someone.

If you complained about Alabama's recent probation, please shut up!!! It wasn't really a punishment. You can throw out repeat offender and Albert Means until you turn blue in the face. When you co-operate, punishment is not as unmerciless. When you hide the allegations under red tape, mercy is a far gone possibility.

Guess, what's happened?

First, USC acts to place self-imposed sanctions on their basketball program. The NCAA's verdict.....denied!!! That should be clue #1. Now we have Pete Carroll resigning from USC 3 days after Jim Mora was fired from Seattle. The question you should ask yourself is "Why would someone below a caliber of Mike Holmgren take a job with the Seattle Seahawks???" This is the same Pete Carroll that coached the New York Jets and New England Patriots. The Seahawks are quite a downgrade from those other franchises.

Pete Carroll can deny that his move was not motivated by the possible investigation by the NCAA on USC. The writing is on the wall. The new question now arises. It's not a matter of if the NCAA will come down on USC athletics. It's only a matter of when. The storm clouds are getting more violent, and this storm may skip the rain and go straight into a tornado. Disaster is looming and it will be interesting of who takes the USC job, how far USC will drop, and how long it will take to recover.
