What was once a tragedy, could begin a new dynasty!

Before I get into the meat of this blog, I would like to say one thing. Reading Facebook statuses, tweets, and message board B.S. makes me lose more faith in humanity with each waking minute.

Any Bama fan (or fan for that matter) who cheers when a player gets injured should never watch another sporting event again and should be banned from wearing any shirt of a college whatsover. It's classless and you verify America that the South is the backwoods inbred stereotype that it's been given.

The state of Alabama has shut down today in celebration of a new state holiday. Alabama gets #13 (or #8 if you want to really argue it) and another win for the SEC against The Big XII. What began as a tragic massacre turned into an epic last stand by the Texas Longhorns. At the start of the game, Texas came out like gangbusters and had Alabama staggering on the ropes. The Tide defense may have been having flashbacks of the Sugar Bowl last year as Texas ran an up-tempo offense. In the opening drive, what was every Texas fans nightmare became a reality. Marcel Dareus's hit on Colt McCoy was a neutralizer Alabama needed.

Regardless of how disasterous the rest of the first half was, Texas won more for the future as the game went on. America saw Garrett Gilbert grow up before our eyes in a baptism by fire. This guy will be a Heisman contender in years to come and I look forward to following this kid 2010 and onward.

Fans will throw out that Colt McCoy's injury was a major factor. Thank you for stating the obvious. Alabama's offense didn't exactly dazzle the nation. Greg McElroy's performace was not that great. However, it's not Greg McElroy's job to be Tom Brady. He has two running backs and an offensive line that physically beats up their opponents. Alabama was the better team that night. They were more physical than Texas and made the plays that Championships are won by. McCoy's injury was tragic and I hate to see a kid like him have to go out like that. I hope his shoulder recovers and look forward to watching him grow in a potential NFL career.

Anyone who says that Texas didn't belong in this game, is a mindless jackass. Do you really think that Cincinnatti, TCU, or Boise St. are more worthy? I don't think so. Alabama would have physically beaten up any of those teams. This defense has 8 or 9 NFL caliber players on defense.

When the clock struck zero, I began getting the same feeling that I was getting in 2003 with the USC Trojans. This was the beginning of USC's dominance in the NC Championship limelight. Alabama has the potential of playing for multiple crystal balls in the next few years. I believe the SEC is falling into a decline that will be in the Tide's favor. Ole Miss has peaked, Les Miles can't manage the clock, and Gene Chizik has a steep hill to climb. Though Dan Mullen has made tremendous strides at Miss. St, It won't be enough as long as Saban is pumping in talented freaks of nature. Only a meltdown of epic proportions could derail this freight train. Through the probations, firing of Mike DuBose, and Dennis Franchione leaving the program like a middle-aged man leaving his wife for a 20 year old, last night may have been the beginning of a rememorable dynasty that could possibly eclipse The Bear. Kudos to Alabama, and don't be surprised to see the Tide playing for the expensive glass ball next year.
